RV Mini-Vacations: Road Tripping for Some R&R

The Good Life Travel

When spring has sprung, or the dog days of summer are upon you, the good ole RV will be calling your name. But, maybe you don’t have a ton of time to drive across country and take a super-awesome-epic road trip. Maybe the only time you have is for a mini vacation. The great news is, even mini vacations or weekend getaways can recharge your batteries and pack in some serious fun in a shorter amount of time. The only real question is: Where to? That’s why we’ve selected some mini vacations that will provide you a lot of R&R with not as much driving.

RATHBUN LAKE, IA

If you’re in need of some time on the water, you’ll have to check out Rathbun Lake. Not only do they offer RV camping locations that are right on the shore, but you can also take part in various activities at Honey Creek Resort. Take a swing on the luxurious golf course, a dip in the indoor waterpark, or cast your fishing line in the water! And if you think you need some recipe ideas that would be worthy of being cooked up in your RVs kitchen, you can take a cooking class!

KANSAS CITY, KANSAS

KC has a ton of great mini vacation activities that are worthy of a little getaway. If you or your kids are into Legos, Legoland is a must see. There, you can view amazing displays built from Legos, and even build some yourself! After all that building, you might have worked up an appetite. The good news is, Kansas City is known for some killer BBQ joints that are sure to fill your belly. We highly recommend Gates! Once you’ve seen most of the Kansas City sights, you might feel like getting a little exotic, and the Kansas City Zoo will certainly let you see some wild sights!

Where to stay: Miller’s Kampark

MADISON, WI

If having one lake doesn’t float your boat, how about visiting a town with access to two? Madison is a great college town located between Lake Monona and Lake Mendota. That means this mini vacation will be packed with sailing, fishing and boating options. And, if you’re tired of reeling in smallmouth bass all day, the family will love to check out the three floors of interactive exhibits at the Madison Children’s Museum. Oh, and you can’t go to the state of Wisconsin without coming back with some cheese! We recommend checking out Fromagination, an artisan cheese shop that is sure to give you some chedda.
